The human behaviour is something people always have wondered about. It is interesting to see people act and think differently. Humans are special in their own individual ways, but some people are more fascinating than others. Those people are the ones who have broken the rules and laws of the human ethics. The most interesting people in this group are serial killers. These are killers that kill numerous amounts of victims. While society condemns their behaviour they also show their huge fascination towards it.
Nowadays people hear about serial killers almost all the time. They're portrayed in newspapers, on television, in movies and on the internet. Even though society see serial killers as evil they fascinate human beings also. Media glorifies the serial killers and instead of been seen as monsters they are observed as some kind of idols. One of the signs of the human fascination is how we spend money just to se a movie about a serial killer who kills innocent people. The movies have become more and more popular. Many serial killers have gotten their life stories on the big screen. Aileen Wuornos, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy are all serial killer who have their life story portrayed on the big screen. There have also been movies with mythical serial killers. "From Hell", "Silence of the Lamb" and "Seven" is examples of these.
As if this was not enough the famous sculpture David Johnson has begun sculpting serial killer action figures. These are not allowed in regular stores but I would not be surprised if they were in a few years. There are many explanations of why we humans are so interested in serial killers. On of them is that we humans have a need for excitement. Humans want to feel danger but not really be in any danger itself.. That is why serial killers are fascinating because they are not fictional characters and the crimes they committed are real. That effects a person closer than if it was a fictional serial killer. This makes people get closer to danger in reality but also know that the perpetrator is locked up behind bars.
Another factor that intrigues us is the fact that serial killers are so different from the "normal" human being. The things they do and think of reflects the bad side of the society, and therefore makes a person feel more "normal". After having watched a movie about a serial killer or read about one you can relax and think of how normal you really are. The combination of these factors makes the human being fascinated with serial killers.
There is other ways to look at the human fascination for serial killers. Some people state that it is normal to feel an attraction to serial killers because it lies in our blood. Humans are beasts deep inside that like blood and seeing other people suffer. Deep inside all humans are sadists. The only reason why all people are not serial killers is because we have become more civilized. The human being has developed a lot and we do not allow ourselves to indulge in things we used to enjoy, like torturing people or watching them been tortured. Our fascination with serial killers is therefore a picture of where we would be if we had not repressed the beast inside of us all.
